Frequently Asked

The questions we hear most often.

When do I need an as-built drawing?
Whenever you're modifying an existing structure (renovation, addition, lease build-out) and the original drawings don't exist or aren't accurate. Lenders and landlords often require them too. We field-measure and produce the drawing in 5–10 business days for typical residential.
When is 3D modeling worth the cost vs. just 2D drawings?
3D earns its cost when you need to (a) sell the project to someone who can't read 2D drawings — buyers, lenders, design-review boards, (b) catch spatial conflicts before construction, or (c) have marketing-grade renderings. For straightforward permit drawings on a familiar typology, 2D is enough.
How long does a permit drawing set take?
Typical residential: 3–6 weeks from Discovery to permit-ready, depending on complexity and how quickly you turn around review feedback. Commercial varies widely. We'll give you a real number after the Discovery call.
Do you handle the permit submission with the city, or just produce the drawings?
Both. We can produce drawings only and hand them to your contractor or expediter, OR coordinate the submission directly with the AHJ. Many clients prefer that we handle submission so the technical questions stay with the technical person.
Are you a licensed architect?
Wooten Company Inc. provides building design and drafting services. North Carolina law allows building designers to prepare drawings for residential and many commercial projects within specific size and use limits. For projects requiring an architect's stamp, we work alongside a licensed NC architect to deliver the stamped set.
What's your typical fee structure?
Most projects are fixed-fee based on scope. Hourly rates apply to discovery, build-phase support (RFIs, change orders), and small one-off tasks. We give you a written proposal before any work starts — no surprises.
Can you work with my contractor's preferred software / standards?
Yes. We deliver in CAD (AutoCAD) and Revit. If your contractor or in-house team uses specific layer conventions, line weights, or family libraries, we adapt to those — no extra charge.
Do you serve outside the Triangle area?
For drafting and modeling work that doesn't require a site visit, yes — we work with clients across NC and out-of-state firms looking for an outsourced drafting partner. For as-builts and field measurement, we serve the broader Triangle region.
